Next to the clean-cut buildings in Manchester's Spinningfields district, tucked in between bars and shops is the impressive entrance to the 196 Deansgate - a building that attracts a crowd of ambitious, culturally-curious workers.
Inside, the tall ceilings accentuate the grandeur of the original features.
Elements of the coffee lounge can be seen through the entrance, creating a sense of intrigue.
A sandalwood scent flows through the space, complemented by smoky tobacco base notes, reminiscent of the building history and its position amongst the chaos of a smoggy, industry-fuelled Edwardian Manchester.
There was a disconnection between the current occupants and the building and we felt the history of the building needed to be celebrated and revealed from behind the plaster white walls.
We also created breakout spaces in the common areas to bring a sense of community back into the building, and worked closely on the branding of the building to ensure the fully immersive sensory experience and building identity were well connected.
